Field Notes

Description:

An attractive moth with a wing span of about 15 mm. Fore wings were a bright yellow with deep brown submarginal areas. Each fore wing also had a brown triangular patch along the inner margin and a similar coloured patch was also seen on the yellow thorax. Labial palps were recurved.

Habitat:

Attracted to garden lights on a warm night.

Notes:

Larvae feed on various eucalyptus species. They live communally in silken webbing covered with dead leaves and frass. The shelters may contain 2 to 35 larvae. <br> http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au/wing/hemiteles.html
