Field Notes

Description:

Resting on a log during midday in its characteristic hunched-over posture. White plume is visible. Looks kind of sly.

Habitat:

Seen in a swamp at Big Cypress National Preserve.

Notes:

Saw many fish in the water and some alligators nearby. Highly productive ecosystem.

This picture brought back memories. As a young kid in NW Iowa, this was the first "exotic" bird I saw in the grove on our farm. It really got me into bird ID. Thanks for sharing. This is a great shot.
