It is a Liatris sp., possibly the Prairie Blazingstar (Liatris pycnostachya) http://www.illinoiswildflowers.info/prairie/plantx/pr_blazingstarx.htm
Yes I think it's a Liatris (aka "Blazing Star") species. Good call.
Pretty cool. Maybe a species of Liatris? I'm not sure but that's what it reminds me off.
