Field Notes

Description:

These moths adapted a behavior to act like twigs, to escape any potential predators. This moth came out of some grass, while I was watering the plants. These moth are found only in the southern part of North America, going as far south to South America.

Habitat:

In my garden, Fort Worth, Texas.

Notes:

Another common visitor at the mercury vapor light sheet.

All I could get out of the meaning of Fissicrambus profanellus in Latin, is fissi, means slit, and crambus, referring to crambidae, or snout moth. (Slit snout moth) Thanks Tukup :-)

I was trying to find the meaning of the common and species name but the etymoloty of the Latin profanus doesn't shed much light. At any rate, that is one unique moth. Thanks for sharing Saturniidae.
