Description:

I'm not sure how to best describe these... but they look to be some kind of fruit inside a hallow decorative leaf-like or cage-like shell. The plants were only about a foot and a half to two feet in height and the bulbs were about a inch or so in diameter.

Similar to a marble inside a golf ball.

This is the fruit of a ground-cherry (Physalis sp.) http://www.michwildflowers.com/solanaceae/clammygroundcherryFS.html (Not necessarily this species - the USDA plant database lists about 10 species that are known to occur in Michigan)
