Field Notes

Description:

Very small carnivorous plant. They have sticky droplets that lure in and trap small insects and other invertebrates. Once dinner is trapped, the leaf slowly closes up by curling inward as you can see in photo 1 and 3. Because they grow in low-nutrient habitats, they need the invertebrates to supplement their nutrients.

Habitat:

Near a pond in a sandy area of a fire-suppressed longleaf pine sandhill savanna
