Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized bird. So green that it blends in with the leaves. Blue throat and red feathers on the head.It is a barbet so it has bristles at the base of the beak.

Habitat:

This one was exploring a rather ageing Kadamba tree (Neolamarckia cadamba) where the Coppersmith barbets ( Megalaima haemacephala) have usually excavated holes to nest in. I planted this tree when we first moved in here in the mid 1980s.

Notes:

I have seen these birds feast on the round Kadamba flowers.
