Field Notes

Description:

Male mallards, or drakes, have a glossy green head with gray on their wings and belly.

Habitat:

Mallards, or wild ducks, live in wetlands throughout much of the Americas, Europe, Asia, and North Africa.

Notes:

This mallard was seen on calm water, which made for a pretty reflection with its bright green head. The second image, "Reflections with a Hint of Color," was achieved with some editing to have a black and white image for all but its glossy green head, along with the reflections of its head in the water. In doing so, the mallard's head, with the reflection, were accentuated for artistic purposes.
