Field Notes

Description:

Large, headless, black ant.

Habitat:

Found on a wooden boardwalk that winds through a floodplain forest.

Notes:

With my naked eye I couldn't tell what this was at first. Thinking that it was a spider attacking it's prey I decided to take some pics. It was moving awkwardly like a struggle was taking place. I was surprised when I realized what it was. This species of ant is always patrolling up and down the boardwalk.
