Field Notes

Description:

Large very colourful butterfly, some 7 - 8 cm in wingspan. Wings are bright orange with dark brown and white spots and brown edges; hindwings edges have blue fields on their margins.

Habitat:

Common european species, usually seen in woodlands. Here, seen on edges of a 'lowland' forest of Geneva lake valley - deciduous wood, mainly oak, protected forest.
