Congratulations Albert, your pitcher plant is our Spotting of the Day! It is also the first occurrence for this species on Project Noah. "Endemic to just the summit region of Thumb Peak on the island of Palawan in the Philippines, this pitcher plant (Nepenthes deaniana) is our Spotting of the Day! The Philippine archipelago is home to a number Nepenthes species, most of which are endemic. The archipelago is the third richest region for Nepenthes diversity, following Sumatra and Borneo. The majority of these species are known from one or just a few closely located mountain tops. This level of endemism is thought to be caused by vicariance within the territories occupied by Nepenthes. In biogeography, vicariance refers to the separation or division of a group of organisms by a geographic barrier, such as a mountain or a body of water, resulting in differentiation of the original group into new varieties or species".
