Field Notes

Description:

Pelagic gull...quite rare to see on the west coast of FL

This is a juvenile bird

Habitat:

Found on the Sunshine Skyway Fishing Pier: Pineallis Co. FL

Notes:

There was a second Kittiwake that was seen eating a fish on a cut line including the lead sinker...I think the bird died. A fishing pier is a terrible place for birding...we saw 2 Pelicans, a Royal Tern & a Common Loon get hooked by fishermen, hauled 20-30 ft up to the pier by hook to have it removed...and I guess they are the lucky ones that didn't have the line cut & left in their beaks.
