Field Notes

Description:

Very similar to the Western Grebe. Differences include the black border on the face goes over the eye not under. Giving it a white outline. The bill is a bright yellow / orange and slightly turned up. There are a few others but sometimes difficulty to tell. There are reported cases of hybidizing of the two species. Range is a little smaller then the Western so it is rarer to find.

Habitat:

Coastal waters and bays, Marshes and lakes.
