Field Notes

Description:

I need some help with this. I am just getting into fungus, etc. I found this on a large cinnamon tree near our house. At first I thought it must be a type of spider web, but today I went fungus hunting farther into the jungle and found more trees with this. It was always below 2 meters, pure white and sticky. It can be pulled off in stringy bunches. Does anyone know if there is a fungus or mold or something that looks like this?

Habitat:

This was found near the base a cinnamon tree in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador (700 masl).

Notes:

I haven't a clue even where to look to find out what this is, so I thought this would be the best place to start. I think there are fungus/mold/stuff experts here. Thanks.
