Field Notes

Description:

Small squirrels about 20-25cm long in the body. Grey to brown body, dark on the back with three light tan stripes running dorsally from head to base of the tail. Tail is long and a little fluffy with one or two lighter stripes running down it. Little face is quite square from the side, but pointy from above. Black eyes and short pointed ears.

Habitat:

Seen in large old trees in an open park in suburban Chennai. This tree was a Jack fruit tree, but they were scampering around various fruiting and flowering trees all over the park.

Notes:

Love these gorgeous creatures, can watch squirrels for hours. They are just so bright and busy all the time.
