Description:

Large blue-brown bivalve mollusks found in the intertidal zone

Habitat:

Found in Santa Barbara in a tidepool, clustered on a rock.

Notes:

Attach to rock with a group of filaments referred to as byssus.
In a symbiotic relationship with barnacles, as seen in photo.
