Hi Black Forest Primary School! The scientific name which has been given to you for your magpie is not up-to-date: it is now Gymnorhina tibicen. The genus Cracticus is now reserved for butcherbirds. There are many different local races for the magpie, with some overlaps. There are divided between Black-backed Magpies and White-backed Magpies. Here you'll find information about the classification of birds worldwide: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/clementschecklist/
