Field Notes

Description:

First Broad-billed Flycatcher from the Kimberley, WA.

These beautiful little birds are a deep, slightly glossy blue-grey on the head and extending down the back. Under the tail is a dark grey while the belly, extending down to the undertail is white. The neck and chest is a lovely, deep rufous-orange.

Habitat:

Hanging about the bank of a small flowing river at the Mt Hart campground.

Notes:

According to the IUCN Redlist, the Broad-billed Flycatcher is Least Concern but the population trend is decreasing - http://www.iucnredlist.org/search

In the short time I was hanging with this little one, I didn't hear it make a sound...unlike the Paperbark Flycatcher which seems intent on letting you know they are around - continuously!

Reference: Warden at BBO for identifying.
