Field Notes

Description:

"Periclimenes brevicarpalis can reach a length of 0.5 to 1.0 inch. The body is almost transparent, with some white spots over carapace and tail and orange spots outlined in black over the caudal fin. Males are larger than females and have more white spots."

Notes:

Found these two with rather odd sac-like humps on their sides. Though they look like females (less white spots than others sighted) don't think they are eggs. Not sure what this abnormality is (if these are parasites or abnormal cysts) but what is strange is that both of them have it.

Night dive at a depth of 4.5 m. Anilao Pier, Batangas, Philippines

Thanks Gerardo. Hope someone can identify what those abnormalities are :-)
