Field Notes

Description:

Very bad pictures of a very exciting creature. Small rabbit sized shrew, solid black body, quite red face with long wiggly nose. Little skinny legs and shortish rat like tail.

Habitat:

Seen feeding and rustling about in the leaf litter of dense woodland inland of the Rufiji river.

Notes:

I'm sure they are probably common, but was thrilled to see this little creature when I took a walk from the camp in Selous. He was very busy, creating a lot of noise searching about in the leaf littler, but also very shy if I made myself known.
