Field Notes

Notes:

This small snake, about 80cm long, startled me in the backyard this afternoon. Yellow-faced Whip Snakes are generally pale olive or grey with a light rusty flush on the upper third of the body, but the rust colour on this one is beautifully vivid (see shots 3 and 4). It's the most colourful specimen I've seen. These snakes are often confused with the highly venomous Eastern Brown Snake, but these guys are only mildly venomous and enjoy a diet of skinks and frogs.
