Field Notes
Description:
Described as the "largest, darkest of a trio of honey eaters", this bird was about 200-215mm long. It had olive-green back and a dark tail. A blue-grey head showed a white streak under eyes and a creamy white crescent shaped patch on the cheek. Bill was dark and slightly curved.
Habitat:
Wet sclerophyll forests. In Victoria, it is seen south of the Great Divide to the the Dandenong Ranges and south to Gippsland lakes and Strzelecki Ranges.
Rainforests, Coast up to 600m.
Notes:
Extremely active bird. Feed mostly on fruits but also on nectar and insects. Belongs to the family Meliphagidae
