Description:

This is the Yellow-banded Carpenter Bee, Xylocopa philippinensis Smith. They are large carpenter bees endemic to the Philippines and are distinguishable from other carpenter bees by having 2 yellow bands across the hind thorax and first abdominal segment. The wings shine an iridescent dark rosy purple.
