Field Notes

Description:

Neriidae; Stelostylinus sp. These Banana Stalk Flies have a fairly wide range of plants that they like to eat. I don't think I have ever seen one on its own, it seems to be a rather social creature which visits plants in small groups (no scientific support for this - personal observations only).

Habitat:

Spotted in our backyard on Sponge Gourd (Luffa acutangula) known as Patola in the Philippines. Plant identification - http://www.stuartxchange.org/Patola.html
