Field Notes

Description:

I always thought Lionfish were huge, their photos give that impression, even this one looks large, but his body is only 10-12cm long max. The fins and extensions make him look much larger, but still a very small fish. Body is striped with and alternating dark thick stripe and a light thin stripe, colour is hard to tell in changing light but seems to be a dark orange to burgundy. His movement was more sort of drifting that active, but he moved quite quickly at different times.

Habitat:

Seen in coral rock pools at low tide along the east coast.

Notes:

This is Pterois, but I don't know which one.
