Description:

white scales on cap and stalk, there was only a small clump of few individuals. "Potentially Edible"!

Habitat:

side of a cliff, shaded by maples and hemlocks.

thanks Kathleen! it's tentatively Pholiota squarrosoides, if they are still around late Oct, there will be a mycology society mushroom show i could bring them for ID confirmation. definitely thinking of going mushroom hunting soon here, it's the most exciting season of the yr.

Check out the Pholiota species and see if any of them match. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pholiota This is just a start. Pholiota usually grow on wood in my experience, so this may be something else. Nice spotting! It's definitely mushroom season on the west coast!
