Field Notes

Description:

One of my male betta fish. This is a black orchid crowntail morph of the species. Betta fish are sadly one of the worst treated fish in the pet trade and their care is not met. Used in the past for animal fighting they're now kept as mostly ornamental aquarium fish.

Habitat:

Betta fish are native to streams and rice paddies in Asia, and the myth that they live in tiny puddles in the wild comes form these rivers drying up and forming small pockets in the dry seasons.
