Field Notes

Description:

Small fish, tiny, 2cm long. At first glance looks like a bright blue coloured fish, but looking at the photos you can see better. The fish is a gold to olive green, classic fishy shape with wide head and tapering body. Only the dorsal area is an aquamarine blue with a small patch of burgundy along the very peak.

Habitat:

Seen in coral rock pools in the tidal zone on the east coast.

Notes:

The bright colours on top of the fish, make him look smaller than he really is and all brightly coloured, but actually the fish is about twice the size. perhaps some kind of mimicry?
(Also I think these are the same fish.. type.. but maybe they are two types?)
