Field Notes

Description:

Small Bee eater, quite like many, but not quite any that I can define. Small, about 8-10cm tall. Shortish tail. Olivey green body colours with a light bluish tinge on the end of the wings. A sort of rust coloured head and under the chin. Black eye stripe and light blue edging on it below the eye. Long slightly curving black beak.

Habitat:

Seen in woodland and in mudbanks along the edges of the rufiji river.

The only one I have come up with so far is Boehm’s Bee-eater (Metrops boehmi) but the tail in this pic (http://10000birds.com/the-bee-eaters-of-africa.htm - scroll down past halfway) is putting me off...will keep looking :)
