Field Notes

Description:

An orange-brown long-horned beetle with distinctive ivory markings on its elytra. The eyes are black and the antennae are segmented. Adult beetles are 12–25 millimetres (0.47–0.98 in) in length. The life span is 10–40 years.

Habitat:

Spotted on my backyard fence. Attracted to light. Mixed woods nearby.

Notes:

From Bugguide: hosts include a wide variety of hardwoods (oak, ash, hickory, locust, chestnut, maple, elm, beech, cherry); larvae bore in heartwood. Adults come to bait traps and perhaps feed on rotting fruit, nectar
