Field Notes

Description:

The bombardier beetles get their names from the chemical mixture(hydroquinone, C6-H4-O2, and hydrogen peroxide, H2-O2) they secrete when they feel threatened. It's not particulary harmful for humans however predatory insects have shown to die from exposure. https://treatment.plazi.org/id/03FB8782FFF677504AFEFDAD307FF8EA https://zenodo.org/record/3993615/files/figure.png

Habitat:

Farmland, mixed tropical forest.

Notes:

This one will give you a slight burn if you touch it, I tried twice and both times it penetrated the outer layer of my finger, making what looked like a small hole and reddish surrounding area the size of a pea for about a week or so.
