Assassin Bug
16.76, -92.97
Field Notes
Description:
A large brown Assassin Bug with impressive thoracic spines. The antennae are extremely long and that forces him to carry them doubled over like a shield in front of his face. The front pair of legs are not raptorial. This one is a male and measured 2 cm in length. It has a white V-shaped design on the lower part of the thorax and scutellum. There are very small spines along the edges of the abdomen. Family Reduviidae.
Habitat:
I found him on the ground, well camouflaged (2nd picture). Chorreadero Park near Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, Mexico.
