Field Notes

Description:

Solitary, large, robustly-built bee. Looked all black till the sun hit it,and then the iridescence was stunning...blue-black and gold.

Habitat:

On a Thai-basil plant on my rooftop terrace. It stayed on the flower spike for a very long time.

Notes:

Carpenter bees are solitary and rarely sting.
