Yes, I have seen that. And if you look at the BOLD link from Clenchi, you will see all possible variabilities of this aera...
Here's a picture of Morpheus clenchi on Bugguide that has a solid dark top of the thorax. http://bugguide.net/images/raw/MLUZ5LVZ7LAZ5LRR6HFHEHNZLL5ZILBZ6HAH4H8ZSLPZ8LVZPHJHNHLR8HTH4H1HHL6Z7H6Z4LAZ8L.jpg
Thanks bayucca, I have a hard time comparing pinned specimens to live moth pictures.
Cossidae, Zeuzerinae, Morpheis sp. There are a lot of different and similar species around. Unfortunately most of them are shown as museum specimen. Yours might be Morpheis pyracmon or Morpheis clenchi (or another one). I do not feel comfortable enough to get closer than the genus. http://www.boldsystems.org/index.php/Taxbrowser_Taxonpage?taxon=Morpheis%20clenchi http://www.boldsystems.org/index.php/Taxbrowser_Taxonpage?taxon=Morpheis%20pyracmonDHJ04
