Field Notes

Description:

Adult male has glossy bluish-black plumage (female is speckled). Eye is ruby red...or rather banyan -berry red (as you can see in the photos).

Habitat:

Wikipedia says, " They are unusual among the cuckoos in being largely frugivorous as adults." Spotted on a banyan tree Ficus benghalensis in my office (heart of the city) with ripe red berries...the same as yesterday's spotting of the barbet. Today too there were many bird species but it was a very sunny day and most fed hidden by the foliage.
