A Solidago species.... Goldenrod. There are many species, and it's often difficult to distinguish them from a photo. One of my favorite fall flowers. And no, it's NOT the culprit behind fall allergies... it's the ragweed which blooms at the same time, with rather bland not-so-obvious flowers. Goldenrod gets the blame because people see it in glorious bloom right when they start sneezing.
