Great find, the sub-species that you spotted is (Danaus chrysipppus orientis), which is found in Tropical parts of Africa and Madagascar.
I am glad you agree with the ID! We don't have Monarchs in India but the Tiger butterfly is a lookalike...this one looked so similar! My sister and I feel the same way about the prefix Common (not common to us at all!) ...so she says Commonly seen!
Thanks Sukanya, chose African monarch. I find that when researching spotting I often find that they are common this or the other (but not common to me!) :-)
Looks like Danaus chrysippus, also known as the plain tiger...or African monarch...check it out.
