Field Notes

Description:

A pale green moss with short regular opposite shoots about 2 to 3 cm long. They looked like green feathery mats on the forest floor cushioning dead tree banches and leaves.

Habitat:

Damp temperate forest - Dandenong Ranges.

Notes:

An introduced from Europe is now seen in many parts of the world.<br> This moss propogates vegetatively with sporophytes (moss capsules) rarely seen. When they do occur, the stalks of the capsules (setae) range between 2 to 5 cms.
