Lovely! Please consider adding this Spittlebug/Froghopper to the global mission, The Hoppers: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8096480
It looks like you could be right (Locris areata) - the Field Guide to Insects of South Africa has a photo which matches this one, a lot of the others on ISpot look like L. arithmetica, which has more black spots on the wings.
Thanks! I will investigate further.
Cercopidae, Locris sp. and assuming the ID of my link is correct, than it is Locris areata. But if you compare other Areata, than it might be a little but confusing. http://www.ispot.org.za/node/146433?nav=related http://www.ispot.org.za/node/231520?nav=related http://www.ispot.org.za/node/231058?nav=related If we do not find the correct species, I suggest that we take just the genus name. It could be that you have a little mess with the names down there ;-)... http://www.ispot.org.za/search/node/Locris
