Field Notes

Description:

This is the one species of Vaccinium I know at a glance. It has five separate petals and distinctive stamens (one might guess that's where the species name comes from). Deerberries are edible, but the local animals get to the ripe ones before I can.

Habitat:

Mixed woods.

Notes:

Anyone want to ID the fly in picture 3?
