Field Notes

Description:

Quite large white shaded crab. Body and legs are all white, with vague shades of greyish blue here and there. Eyes on eye stalks also a greyish blue. Front leg claws are both the same size.

Habitat:

In tidal zone on the beach, scuttling out of their holes to scavange the wave line, and then quickly back in. holes are very round and quite deep, but doesn't look large enough to hold the crab... but as they go in they sort of fold up to about a third of their size whilst scuttling around.

Notes:

These crabs really get around, whilst they are common to see on the beach, i have seen them in our yard more than two blocks away from the beach..one was even climbing up the screen door one night... making very scary little scratchy noises! ... I couldn't figure out what it could be as he was not obvious at first, had to open the door and look all around, and then after going back inside he started up again and there he was, a little ghost crab trying to ring the doorbell :)
