Great tailed Grackle
Quiscalus mexicanus
29.363, -98.4595
Field Notes
Description:
Beautiful iridescent black feathers highlighted with shades of blue and purple. Yellow eyes and a black bill. This is a medium sized bird with a long tail.
Habitat:
This bird, along with others of the same species, were foraging for food on the ground in my back yard. Although they are found all over San Antonio this is the first time I have seem them land in my back yard and stay awhile. They will frequently hang out in and about the tops of the trees, but generally do not come very low down in the trees much less land on the ground.
