Field Notes

Description:

Oval black patch with silvery sprinkles on the hind wing is unmistakable.

Habitat:

Periphery of a large lake, surrounded by silver fir and rhododendron forests. Over 6 months this place remains covered with snow. Very windy. Altitude: 4,000m.

Notes:

Success! This butterfly was spotted by our son Riinchen Dorji and I struggling in the edge of the lake. We managed to bring it to a rock . Took some photos, warmed it inside the jacket, and released it. We saw it flying happily in the next day morning sun!

Thanks maplemoth662, Leana, Greg, Daniele and The MnMs for making favourite.
Thanks The MnMs. This is indeed a rare butterfly they say, and quite difficult to photograph too. We're lucky, a rare chance, it came to us!
Well done! Beautiful little story 😊
