Hi Benjamin, cool find! The solid black coloration with the orange-red bands between is a match for the Giant Leopard Moth caterpillar. The Isabella Tiger Moth caterpillar (or Woolly Bear) is slightly smaller and black with an orange band of hair (most of the time). You can compare here: http://bugguide.net/node/view/539
