Field Notes

Description:

While large for a mite, it's still a small arachnid but its bright red caught my eyes against the blue-green of moss and lichen. Up close, it reminds me of an underwater scene. (Wish I had a better camera that could handle such a small scene!)

Habitat:

Found in soil and leaf litter.

Notes:

Spotted along the Iron Hill Trail of Red Top Mountain State Park.
