Description:
Female. Moth of the family Lasiocampidae with a wingspan of 50–70 mm. The male is reddish brown coloured with a yellow band on wings that reaches the wing edge. It has a white spot in the forewings. The females are ochre coloured and larger than the males. The moth flies from May to September depending on the location. Their hairs can cause a violent itching skin allergy in some people. The larvae are brown coloured, with white lateral bands and dark hairs. They feed on Larix, Betula, Salix and Rubus species.
