Description:
Bloodworms are carnivorous, and their bites can be painful to humans. Members of the genus are probably known best by fishermen as bait and aquarium owners as fish food. Habitat:
I found this one while digging at the beach. It was less than a foot below the surface, about 10 feet from the water.
Notes:
The copper-based mineral in their jaws make the jaws very strong. This copper found in the jaws of Glycera is actually in crystalline form. Bloodworms are exceptional because they can contain such high amounts of copper in their bodies without being poisoned.
