Thanks Johan. Yes the males use the antennae to detect the female pheremones.
This is the male. The females do not have the plumose antenna.
I thought so too drP! Of course they were invisible until I looked through my macro!

Looks like a midge to me. I've been starting to see a few on the sides of buildings on warmer mornings.
