Mediterranean Gecko
Hemidactylus turcicus
35.0971, -89.7104
Field Notes
Description:
This little guy is about 2" in length. He's brown and tan mottling on his back and that moves to black and white tiger stripes on the tail. He looks very much like a gecko species. Tennessee has no known geckos so I don't know where he came from. I've seen more and more of these here this summer. Any help ID'ing this would be great. Probably the 12th or 13th I've seen.
Habitat:
I'd very much hazard a guess and say that this gecko-like reptile is not a native species however, I've seen a dozen or so in various places this summer. Other than the Anole and the various skinks, this is the first gecko-like lizard I've seen here in Tennessee.
