Corn plant

Olivia I gather that "Dracaena fragratissima" is a synonym of the preferred Dracaena fragrans (see the note at the bottom of http://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/Dracaena_fragrans ). It is not even listed here http://eol.org/pages/1087638/names/synonyms (although "Aloe fragrantissima", a synonym, is). I only see D. fragratissima on gardening type sites which do not always follow taxonomy rigorously. As far as "massangeana" goes, Dracaena massangeana is listed as a synonym too on the EOL list, and elsewhere it is treated as a "variety". OK, now follows my personal approach...I usually avoid varieties based on comparison with on-line digital images. This is because most sites that use them are gardening sites, and because in general varieties are profuse and I don't know the science behind them. Tropical ornamentals are transported, bred and found all over the world. I have seen multiple alternative varieties of some plants that "look" the same in digital images. So I usually avoid naming the variety in the Scientific name. If you can get the genus and species you're already doing good. You're welcome Olivia! But you might consider calling it by the common name I suggested because the genus Dracaena contains about 40 species :-)
